Sri Vishnu Sahasranaama Anubhavam · Appendix: Your Birth Star

Uttara Phalguni (उत्तरफल्गुनी)

Uttara Phalguni covers verses 45 to 48 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.

Pada 1 · Verse 45

ऋतुस्सुदर्शनः कालः परमेष्ठी परिग्रहः ।

उग्रस्संवत्सरो दक्षो विश्रामो विश्वदक्षिणः ॥ ४५ ॥

ṛtussudarśanaḥ kālaḥ paramēṣṭhī parigrahaḥ |

ugrassaṃvatsarō dakṣō viśrāmō viśvadakṣiṇaḥ || 45 ||

He enters every heart through the delightful waves of His qualities. His very sight is auspicious, and His qualities draw all things to Him. After destroying the rakshasas, He returned to His Supreme Abode, taking everyone with Him. At the end of the Kali yuga, as Kalki, He grows fierce, waits armed on Adisesha, acts swiftly against evil, gives rest to the weary, and shows His grace to all alike.

Pada 2 · Verse 46

विस्तारः स्थावरस्थाणुः प्रमाणं बीजमव्ययम् ।

अर्थोऽनर्थो महाकोशो महाभोगो महाधनः ॥ ४६ ॥

vistāraḥ sthāvarasthāṇuḥ pramāṇaṃ bījamavyayam |

arthō’narthō mahākōśō mahābhōgō mahādhanaḥ || 46 ||

After ending the Kali yuga, He spreads the dharma of the Vedas again and rests tranquil, having established it firmly. He is the authority for what is good and bad, and the imperishable seed from which dharma sprouts again. He is the only goal of those devoted to Him alone, gives lesser fruits to those who want them, and His treasures and wealth never grow less however much He gives.

Pada 3 · Verse 47

अनिर्विण्णः स्थविष्ठो भूर्धर्मयूपो महामखः ।

नक्षत्रनेमिर्नक्षत्री क्षमः क्षामस्समीहनः ॥ ४७ ॥

anirviṇṇaḥ sthaviṣṭhō bhūrdharmayūpō mahāmakhaḥ |

nakṣatranēmirnakṣatrī kṣamaḥ kṣāmassamīhanaḥ || 47 ||

He is never despondent. In the form of the Simsumara, the great cluster of stars, He supports all with Dhruva at its tail and holds dharma as His head. He drives the wheel of the stars and supports all the luminaries. He bears the universe with ease, alone remains at the deluge, and at creation sets every being to its work.

Pada 4 · Verse 48

यज्ञ इज्यो महेज्यश्च क्रतुस्सत्रं सताङ्गतिः ।

सर्वदर्शी निवृत्तात्मा सर्वज्ञो ज्ञानमुत्तमम् ॥ ४८ ॥

yajña ijyō mahējyaśca kratussatraṃ satāṅgatiḥ |

sarvadarśī nivṛttātmā sarvajñō jñānamuttamam || 48 ||

He is the sacrifice itself and the true object of all worship, the highest worship, free from the desire for other fruits. He is worshipped through every kind of sacrifice, great and long. He is the goal of those who follow the path of renunciation, the witness of both kinds of dharma, detached and all-knowing, and from Him the whole Vaishnava dharma is learnt.
