Sri Vishnu Sahasranaama Anubhavam · Appendix: Your Birth Star

Moola (मूल)

Moola covers verses 73 to 76 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.

Pada 1 · Verse 73

स्तव्यः स्तवप्रियः स्तोत्रं स्तुतः स्तोता रणप्रियः ।

पूर्णः पूरयिता पुण्यः पुण्यकीर्तिरनामयः ॥ ७३ ॥

stavyaḥ stavapriyaḥ stōtraṃ stutaḥ stōtā raṇapriyaḥ |

pūrṇaḥ pūrayitā puṇyaḥ puṇyakīrtiranāmayaḥ || 73 ||

He alone is worthy of praise and is pleased by praise in any form, for His grace makes us praise Him. All praise Him, from Adisesha and Garuda to the devas and to us, and He praises those who praise Him. He delights in battle for His devotees. Complete in Himself, He fulfils their wish to praise Him, purifies even the worst sinners, and frees us from the disease of samsara.

Pada 2 · Verse 74

मनोजवस्तीर्थकरो वसुरेता वसुप्रदः ।

वसुप्रदो वासुदेवो वसुर्वसुमना हविः ॥ ७४ ॥

manōjavastīrthakarō vasurētā vasupradaḥ |

vasupradō vāsudēvō vasurvasumanā haviḥ || 74 ||

Faster than thought, He purifies His devotees and makes the Ganga and other holy waters holy. His divine lustre is the cause of His incarnations, and He gives Himself as the greatest treasure. As Krishna, He gave Devaki and Vasudeva the glory of being His parents. Son of Vasudeva, He dwells in the milky ocean, ever thinking of His father, and was given like an offering to Yasoda and Nandagopa.

Pada 3 · Verse 75

सद्गतिः सत्कृतिः सत्ता सद्भूतिः सत्परायणः ।

शूरसेनो यदुश्रेष्ठः सन्निवासः सुयामुनः ॥ ७५ ॥

sadgatiḥ satkṛtiḥ sattā sadbhūtiḥ satparāyaṇaḥ |

śūrasēnō yaduśrēṣṭhaḥ sannivāsaḥ suyāmunaḥ || 75 ||

He shows the good the right path, and His deeds, such as stealing butter, are lovable. He is the existence of all things, and everything to the good: son, friend, messenger, charioteer. He is their support and they are His. He led a valiant army against the wicked, is the foremost of the Yadavas, the rest of great sages, and played on the banks of the Yamuna.

Pada 4 · Verse 76

भूतावासो वासुदेवः सर्वासुनिलयोऽनलः ।

दर्पहा दर्पदोऽदृप्तो दुर्धरोऽथापराजितः ॥ ७६ ॥

bhūtāvāsō vāsudēvaḥ sarvāsunilayō’nalaḥ |

darpahā darpadō’dṛptō durdharō’thāparājitaḥ || 76 ||

All beings dwell in Him, the deity of the twelve-lettered Vasudeva mantra, and His devotees cannot live without Him. He cannot bear an offence against them. He humbles the proud devas and asuras without destroying them, and gives His devotees a righteous pride. He is never proud Himself. As a child, no one could control Him, and no one can ever defeat Him.
