Sri Vishnu Sahasranaama Anubhavam · Appendix: Your Birth Star

Krittika (कृत्तिका)

Krittika covers verses 9 to 12 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.

Pada 1 · Verse 9

ईश्वरो विक्रमी धन्वी मेधावी विक्रमः क्रमः ।

अनुत्तमो दुराधर्षः कृतज्ञः कृतिरात्मवान् ॥ ९ ॥

īśvarō vikramī dhanvī mēdhāvī vikramaḥ kramaḥ |

anuttamō durādharṣaḥ kṛtajñaḥ kṛtirātmavān || 9 ||

He is the supreme ruler of Paramapadam, before whom every obstacle falls. He wields the bow Sharnga and knows all things. He rides on Garuda, and His riches spread through Sri Vaikuntham. None is equal to Him, and none can overcome Him. He is grateful for the smallest offering, makes us do good, and owns the souls of the virtuous.

Pada 2 · Verse 10

सुरेशः शरणं शर्म विश्वरेताः प्रजाभवः ।

अहस्संवत्सरो व्याळः प्रत्ययः सर्वदर्शनः ॥ १० ॥

surēśaḥ śaraṇaṃ śarma viśvarētāḥ prajābhavaḥ |

ahassaṃvatsarō vyāḻaḥ pratyayaḥ sarvadarśanaḥ || 10 ||

He commands Brahma, Indra and the devas, and is the final refuge and the bliss of all. He is the seed of the universe and the origin of all beings. He never forsakes His devotees, lives among them to lift them up, accepted Vibhishana, can always be relied upon, and shows His grace to all.

Pada 3 · Verse 11

अजस्सर्वेश्वरः सिद्धः सिद्धिः सर्वादिरच्युतः ।

वृषाकपिरमेयात्मा सर्वयोगविनिस्सृतः ॥ ११ ॥

ajassarvēśvaraḥ siddhaḥ siddhiḥ sarvādiracyutaḥ |

vṛṣākapiramēyātmā sarvayōgavinissṛtaḥ || 11 ||

He was not born as others are, and He removes every obstacle in His devotees' path. He rushes to those who call Him, as He did for Draupadi, and is already within their reach. He is the goal and the origin of all, never abandons those who take refuge in Him, lifted the earth as Varaha, and can be reached by every means.

Pada 4 · Verse 12

वसुर्वसुमनास्सत्यस्समात्मा सम्मितस्समः ।

अमोघः पुण्डरीकाक्षो वृषकर्मा वृषाकृतिः ॥ १२ ॥

vasurvasumanāssatyassamātmā sammitassamaḥ |

amōghaḥ puṇḍarīkākṣō vṛṣakarmā vṛṣākṛtiḥ || 12 ||

He makes His home in the hearts of His devotees and treasures them. He fulfils their rightful wishes, makes no distinction among them, and lets Himself be held by their love. No act of love towards Him is wasted. He shows them His divine form, blesses even those who feel unworthy, and is nectar for every ill.
