Sri Vishnu Sahasranaama Anubhavam · Appendix: Your Birth Star
Dhanishta (धनिष्ठा)
Dhanishta covers verses 89 to 92 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.
Pada 1 · Verse 89
सहस्रार्चिः सप्तजिह्वः सप्तैधाः सप्तवाहनः ।
अमूर्तिरनघोऽचिन्त्यो भयकृद्भयनाशनः ॥ ८९ ॥
sahasrārciḥ saptajihvaḥ saptaidhāḥ saptavāhanaḥ |
amūrtiranaghō’cintyō bhayakṛdbhayanāśanaḥ || 89 ||
His countless rays shine as the sun and moon. As the sacrificial fire with seven tongues, He carries the offerings to the devas, and the sun with seven horses is His vehicle. His body is not born of karma, so He is sinless and beyond compare. He brings fear to those who break His commands, and removes the fear of those who follow them.
Pada 2 · Verse 90
अणुर्बृहत्कृशः स्थूलो गुणभृन्निर्गुणो महान् ।
अधृतः स्वधृतः स्वास्यः प्राग्वंशो वंशवर्धनः ॥ ९० ॥
aṇurbṛhatkṛśaḥ sthūlō guṇabhṛnnirguṇō mahān |
adhṛtaḥ svadhṛtaḥ svāsyaḥ prāgvaṃśō vaṃśavardhanaḥ || 90 ||
He enters the subtlest places, the space in the heart and the soul itself, and is greater than all that is great. He is light as the wind and as massive as He wishes. He supports all that is made of the three gunas, yet is untouched by their defects. His powers are natural to Him, far above those of the bound and the released souls. He supports even the nityasuris and makes all three families of souls grow.
Pada 3 · Verse 91
भारभृत्कथितो योगी योगीशः सर्वकामदः ।
आश्रमः श्रमणः क्षामः सुपर्णो वायुवाहनः ॥ ९१ ॥
bhārabhṛtkathitō yōgī yōgīśaḥ sarvakāmadaḥ |
āśramaḥ śramaṇaḥ kṣāmaḥ suparṇō vāyuvāhanaḥ || 91 ||
He takes on the burden of freeing the bound souls, and all the shastras declare His qualities. In Him, opposite powers meet in full, and He is the Lord of yogis, bringing their yoga to perfection. He grants their wishes, shelters those who stray, lets them resume their practice in the next birth, and on Garuda's swift wings carries them across the ocean of samsara.
Pada 4 · Verse 92
धनुर्धरो धनुर्वेदो दण्डो दमयिताऽदमः ।
अपराजितः सर्वसहो नियन्ता नियमो यमः ॥ ९२ ॥
dhanurdharō dhanurvēdō daṇḍō damayitā’damaḥ |
aparājitaḥ sarvasahō niyantā niyamō yamaḥ || 92 ||
He carries the bow Sharnga to clear His devotees' path, and He gave the science of archery. Through kings, He upholds dharma, and He Himself destroys the wicked like Ravana. No one can subdue or obstruct Him. He supports all the other deities, guides their worshippers as they choose, decides the fruits of that worship, and controls even Yama.
