Naama 291-300: The Lord who is the object of all desires

भूतभव्यभवन्नाथः पवनः पावनोऽनलः ।

कामहा कामकृत्कान्तः कामः कामप्रदः प्रभुः ॥ ३२ ॥

bhūtabhavyabhavannāthaḥ pavanaḥ pāvanō’nalaḥ |

kāmahā kāmakṛtkāntaḥ kāmaḥ kāmapradaḥ prabhuḥ || 32 ||

291. bhūtabhavyabhavannāthaḥ · भूतभव्यभवन्नाथः

The one who is the master of all things, not only in the present but at all times, the past, the present, and the future.

(oṃ) bhūtabhavyabhavannāthāya namaḥ

He is the Lord of all beings, in all times. Sri Bhattar quotes the Sabha Parva: "Kesava, the slayer of the asura Kesi, the Lord of the past, the present, and the future, is the refuge of all the Vrishnis, their protector in times of danger, and the destroyer of their enemies."

292. pavanaḥ · पवनः

The one who, by His very nature, moves about in all places and at all times. The wind is called the constant wanderer only because it has a fraction of this quality of the Lord.

(oṃ) pavanāya namaḥ

Lord Krishna says in the Gita, "Among the purifiers, I am the wind" (pavanaḥ pavatām asmi).

293. pāvanaḥ · पावनः

The one who purifies the world. Even the Ganga and other holy rivers are able to purify the world only because they are connected with Him.

(oṃ) pāvanāya namaḥ

Sage Agastya said to Lord Rama, "O Scion of the Raghu race! You alone are the purifier of all the worlds."

294. analaḥ · अनलः

The one who, even after doing so much good for His devotees, is never satisfied and always wishes to do more.

(oṃ) analāya namaḥ

Just as a fire grows more and more with every offering made into it, the Lord's desire to help His devotees only grows with every act of kindness He does. The fire in the world is called anala (insatiable) only because it has a particle of this quality of the Lord.

295. kāmahā · कामहा

The one who destroys the desires for worldly pleasures in those who have realised His true nature.

(oṃ) kāmaghnē namaḥ

The devotee says, "My mind is free from the stain of desire, for it has found a place at Your feet."

296. kāmakṛt · कामकृत्

The one who, out of His love for His devotees, creates things worthy of being desired, such as enjoyment in this world and moksham.

(oṃ) kāmakṛtē namaḥ

It is natural for a person with less to go to a person with more to fulfil their needs. The only one who can ultimately fulfil the desires of everyone is the one who has everything, Vishnu, the kāmakṛt. He also creates good desires in His devotees, such as the desire to serve Him.

297. kāntaḥ · कान्तः

The one who is charming and fascinating because of the beauty and delicacy of His body.

(oṃ) kāntāya namaḥ

In Tamil, the word "kāntam" is used for a magnet. The Lord is like a magnet, drawing everything towards Himself. Sri Bhattar explains that His charm comes from the eternal tenderness and beauty of His divine body (svayaṃ saundarya saukumāryādi rūpaguṇaiḥ). This naama occurs again as the 660th naama.

298. kāmaḥ · कामः

The one who is extremely lovable because of His innate qualities, such as His generosity and compassion. Manmatha, the god of love, can madden the whole world only because he has a little of this quality.

(oṃ) kāmāya namaḥ

Those who desire wealth and sense pleasures lower themselves, while those who desire the Lord raise themselves. Manmatha, the god of love, can attract the whole world only because he has a small fraction of the Lord's lovability.

299. kāmapradaḥ · कामप्रदः

The one who grants the wishes of those who desire Him, and also of those who desire lesser things, according to what they deserve.

(oṃ) kāmapradāya namaḥ

The Kathopanishad says, "The One fulfils the desires of the many" (ēkō bahūnāṃ yō vidadhāti kāmān). For those who desire nothing but Him, He fulfils their desire by remaining constantly in their minds.

300. prabhuḥ · प्रभुः

The one who, by His extreme loveliness, has the supreme power to draw the minds of all towards Himself.

(oṃ) prabhavē namaḥ

In the Ramayana, it is said, "Rama, with eyes as lovely as lotus petals, draws the minds of all beings towards Himself."
