Uttara Badra (उत्तरभाद्रपदा)
Uttara Badra covers verses 101 to 104 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.
Pada 1 · Verse 101
अनादिर्भूर्भुवो लक्ष्मीः सुवीरो रुचिराङ्गदः ।
जननो जनजन्मादिः भीमो भीमपराक्रमः ॥ १०१ ॥
anādirbhūrbhuvō lakṣmīḥ suvīrō rucirāṅgadaḥ |
jananō janajanmādiḥ bhīmō bhīmaparākramaḥ || 101 ||
Those devoted to other things do not accept Him as master, yet He supports those who know they are His servants and is all their wealth. He is valiant in saving His devotees from a fall and lifting up the fallen, and gives them His lovely form to enjoy. He creates us with senses fit to enjoy Him and is the purpose of every birth. He is fearsome to those who turn from His grace, like Hiranya and Ravana.
Pada 2 · Verse 102
आधारनिलयो धाता पुष्पहासः प्रजागरः ।
ऊर्ध्वगः सत्पथाचारः प्राणदः प्रणवः पणः ॥ १०२ ॥
ādhāranilayō dhātā puṣpahāsaḥ prajāgaraḥ |
ūrdhvagaḥ satpathācāraḥ prāṇadaḥ praṇavaḥ paṇaḥ || 102 ||
He is the refuge of the righteous, like Prahlada, Vibhishana and the Pandavas, and practises dharma Himself to teach it. His qualities blossom for His devotees like an evening flower, and He stays awake day and night to protect them, rising above all things. He leads them on the path of service and gives new life to the lost. Through the Pranava, He shows them their bond with Him, and even exchanges the roles of master and servant.
Pada 3 · Verse 103
प्रमाणं प्राणनिलयः प्राणधृत्प्राणजीवनः ।
तत्त्वं तत्त्वविदेकात्मा जन्ममृत्युजरातिगः ॥ १०३ ॥
pramāṇaṃ prāṇanilayaḥ prāṇadhṛtprāṇajīvanaḥ |
tattvaṃ tattvavidēkātmā janmamṛtyujarātigaḥ || 103 ||
He reveals the secret truths of the Vedas without error. He is the nest where all souls rest, nourishes them like a mother, and sustains them like food and drink. He is the essence of all things, as butter is of milk, knows His own truth, is the one Supreme Soul and owner of all, and is beyond birth, death and old age.
Pada 4 · Verse 104
भूर्भुवः स्वस्तरुस्तारः सविता प्रपितामहः ।
यज्ञो यज्ञपतिर्यज्वा यज्ञाङ्गो यज्ञवाहनः ॥ १०४ ॥
bhūrbhuvaḥ svastarustāraḥ savitā prapitāmahaḥ |
yajñō yajñapatiryajvā yajñāṅgō yajñavāhanaḥ || 104 ||
He is the wish-fulfilling tree for the three worlds, the ferry across samsara, the father of all beings and the great-grandfather of the worlds. He is the sacrifice, its means and its fruit, and grants that fruit. He performs it for those who cannot, all other sacrifices are only parts of His worship, and He gives the performer the devotion and faith to complete it.
