Sri Vishnu Sahasranaama Anubhavam · Appendix: Your Birth Star
Swathi (स्वाती)
Swathi covers verses 57 to 60 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.
Pada 1 · Verse 57
महर्षिः कपिलाचार्यः कृतज्ञो मेदिनीपतिः ।
त्रिपदस्त्रिदशाध्यक्षो महाशृङ्गः कृतान्तकृत् ॥ ५७ ॥
maharṣiḥ kapilācāryaḥ kṛtajñō mēdinīpatiḥ |
tripadastridaśādhyakṣō mahāśṛṅgaḥ kṛtāntakṛt || 57 ||
As Kapila, the great seer, He realised the Vedas directly, and as the Acharya He taught the tattvas. He remembers every small good deed done to Him and bears the earth. He revealed the three tattvas, the soul, matter and the Lord, and is the friend of the devas in distress. As Varaha, the earth rests on His great tusk, and He slew Hiranyaksha, giving us His promise of protection in the Varaha Charama Shloka.
Pada 2 · Verse 58
महावराहो गोविन्दः सुषेणः कनकाङ्गदी ।
गुह्यो गभीरो गहनो गुप्तश्चक्रगदाधरः ॥ ५८ ॥
mahāvarāhō gōvindaḥ suṣēṇaḥ kanakāṅgadī |
guhyō gabhīrō gahanō guptaścakragadādharaḥ || 58 ||
He is the great Varaha, who rescued the earth. His body, made of pure sattva, serves Him like an army, adorned with golden armlets of the same divine material. That divine form is hidden, revealed only by the Upanishads: deep, unfathomable, and guarded by the earlier Acharyas. He bears the discus and the mace.
Pada 3 · Verse 59
वेधाः स्वाङ्गोऽजितः कृष्णो दृढः सङ्कर्षणोऽच्युतः ।
वरुणो वारुणो वृक्षः पुष्कराक्षो महामनाः ॥ ५९ ॥
vēdhāḥ svāṅgō’jitaḥ kṛṣṇō dṛḍhaḥ saṅkarṣaṇō’cyutaḥ |
varuṇō vāruṇō vṛkṣaḥ puṣkarākṣō mahāmanāḥ || 59 ||
He gives His devotees endless splendour, and all the marks of sovereignty are His own. His city, Sri Vaikuntham, is unconquered, and His divine body is dark like a rain cloud. From it He takes the firm vyuha forms, as Sankarshana drawing in all things alike. He never slips from His place, envelops all, stays with those who seek Him, and shelters all like a shady tree, His eyes and mind ever generous to His devotees.
Pada 4 · Verse 60
भगवान् भगहा नन्दी वनमाली हलायुधः ।
आदित्यो ज्योतिरादित्यः सहिष्णुर्गतिसत्तमः ॥ ६० ॥
bhagavān bhagahā nandī vanamālī halāyudhaḥ |
ādityō jyōtirādityaḥ sahiṣṇurgatisattamaḥ || 60 ||
He is supremely worthy of worship, free from every defect and full of every good quality, possessing all six divine qualities. As Balarama, son of Nandagopa, He wears the garland and holds the plough, and as Krishna He was born to Devaki. His radiance outshines the sun. He forgave Rudra's wrong, and He is the most trustworthy guide on the path of dharma.
