Punarvasu (पुनर्वसु)
Punarvasu covers verses 25 to 28 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.
Pada 1 · Verse 25
आवर्तनो निवृत्तात्मा संवृतस्संप्रमर्दनः ।
अहस्संवर्तको वह्निरनिलो धरणीधरः ॥ २५ ॥
āvartanō nivṛttātmā saṃvṛtassaṃpramardanaḥ |
ahassaṃvartakō vahniranilō dharaṇīdharaḥ || 25 ||
He turns the wheel of samsara and can turn any soul from it. Though in the world, He is far above it. He hides from those ruled by tamas and dispels their darkness with knowledge. He regulates day and night, supports the worlds as space, gives life as the air, and bears the earth and those who bear it.
Pada 2 · Verse 26
सुप्रसादः प्रसन्नात्मा विश्वसृग्विश्वभुग्विभुः ।
सत्कर्ता सत्कृतस्साधुर्जह्नुर्नारायणो नरः ॥ २६ ॥
suprasādaḥ prasannātmā viśvasṛgviśvabhugvibhuḥ |
satkartā satkṛtassādhurjahnurnārāyaṇō naraḥ || 26 ||
He gives every good to those who surrender at His feet, and His nature is clear and merciful. He creates every being with care, pervades all to protect His devotees, and honours the good. He accepts the smallest offering as great, does whatever His devotees ask, hides from the undevoted, and is Narayana, the support and abode of all souls, whose possessions are eternal.
Pada 3 · Verse 27
असङ्ख्येयोऽप्रमेयात्मा विशिष्टश्शिष्टकृच्छुचिः ।
सिद्धार्थस्सिद्धसङ्कल्पः सिद्धिदस्सिद्धिसाधनः ॥ २७ ॥
asaṅkhyēyō’pramēyātmā viśiṣṭaśśiṣṭakṛcchuciḥ |
siddhārthassiddhasaṅkalpaḥ siddhidassiddhisādhanaḥ || 27 ||
His wealth is beyond counting, and He pervades it all, within and without. He is exalted by His own nature and makes His devotees eminent and pure by His contact. He already has every desirable thing, and His will is always fulfilled. He grants every attainment, and makes the path to Him as sweet as the goal.
Pada 4 · Verse 28
वृषाही वृषभो विष्णुः वृषपर्वा वृषोदरः ।
वर्धनो वर्धमानश्च विविक्तः श्रुतिसागरः ॥ २८ ॥
vṛṣāhī vṛṣabhō viṣṇuḥ vṛṣaparvā vṛṣōdaraḥ |
vardhanō vardhamānaśca viviktaḥ śrutisāgaraḥ || 28 ||
He makes the day a devotee first approaches Him a day of dharma, and showers grace on those scorched by samsara. Pervading all, He gives the steps of dharma to climb towards Him. His belly is filled by any offering made with love, and like a mother He nourishes His devotees and grows with their growth. He is the ocean into which all the Vedas flow.
