Sri Vishnu Sahasranaama Anubhavam · Appendix: Your Birth Star
Aswini (अश्विनी)
Aswini covers verses 1 to 4 of the stotram, one for each of its four padas.
Pada 1 · Verse 1
ॐ विश्वं विष्णुर्वषट्कारो भूतभव्यभवत्प्रभुः ।
भूतकृद् भूतभृद्भावो भूतात्मा भूतभावनः ॥ १ ॥
ōṃ viśvaṃ viṣṇurvaṣaṭkārō bhūtabhavyabhavatprabhuḥ |
bhūtakṛd bhūtabhṛdbhāvō bhūtātmā bhūtabhāvanaḥ || 1 ||
He is complete in His nature, form and qualities, and has entered into every atom of creation. He controls every action from within and owns the past, present and future. He creates and supports all beings, is their inner self, and nourishes all that He has created.
Pada 2 · Verse 2
पूतात्मा परमात्मा च मुक्तानां परमा गतिः ।
अव्ययः पुरुषः साक्षी क्षेत्रज्ञोऽक्षर एव च ॥ २ ॥
pūtātmā paramātmā ca muktānāṃ paramā gatiḥ |
avyayaḥ puruṣaḥ sākṣī kṣētrajñō’kṣara ēva ca || 2 ||
He dwells in all beings yet stays untouched by their karma, and no soul is equal to Him. He is the supreme goal of the released souls and never sends them back to rebirth. He gives Himself to them in plenty, delights in their bliss, shows them His divine form, and reveals ever-new qualities for them to enjoy.
Pada 3 · Verse 3
योगो योगविदां नेता प्रधानपुरुषेश्वरः ।
नारसिंहवपुः श्रीमान् केशवः पुरुषोत्तमः ॥ ३ ॥
yōgō yōgavidāṃ nētā pradhānapuruṣēśvaraḥ |
nārasiṃhavapuḥ śrīmān kēśavaḥ puruṣōttamaḥ || 3 ||
He is Himself the means to liberation, and leads those who walk the path of yoga to their goal. He is master of matter and of souls. As Narasimha, He came from a pillar to protect His devotee, beautiful even in that fierce form. He has lovely locks of hair and is the highest of all beings.
Pada 4 · Verse 4
सर्वः शर्वः शिवः स्थाणुर्भूतादिर्निधिरव्ययः ।
संभवो भावनो भर्ता प्रभवः प्रभुरीश्वरः ॥ ४ ॥
sarvaḥ śarvaḥ śivaḥ sthāṇurbhūtādirnidhiravyayaḥ |
saṃbhavō bhāvanō bhartā prabhavaḥ prabhurīśvaraḥ || 4 ||
He is the cause of all things, sentient and insentient, removes every evil, and makes His devotees auspicious. He is firm in blessing them and eagerly sought by all, an inexhaustible treasure. He incarnates when His devotees need Him, removes their troubles, nourishes them, and shows even on earth the greatness He has in Sri Vaikuntham.
