Sudarshana, the Lord of Time

Sudarshana Jayanti celebrates Chakrattāzhwār, the Sudarshana Chakram of Sriman Nārāyaṇa, and his greatness.

In his Shoḍasha Āyudha Stotram, Swami Deshikan reveals the nature of Sudarshana:

यदायत्तं जगच्चक्रं कालचक्रं च शाश्वतम् ।

पातु वस्तत्परं चक्रं चक्ररूपस्य चक्रिणः ॥

yadāyattaṁ jagaccakraṁ kālacakraṁ ca shāshvatam |

pātu vastat paraṁ cakraṁ cakrarūpasya cakriṇaḥ ||

Swami Deshikan prays for the welfare of all, and asks the sixteen-armed Chakrattāzhwār to protect us. He speaks of time as the aspect of nature that moves eternally forward, and declares that time itself is governed by Sudarshana: the foremost weapon of the Lord, who is none other than the Lord Himself, manifest in the form of the Chakram.
