Swami Deshikan's Yātrā of Vadu Nadu Kshethrams

In the year 1317 AD Swami Deshikan and his wife Kanakavalli were blessed with a son named Varadacharya. Just like his father, Varadacharya was a learned soul. It was as though a lamp was lit from an already bright and shining lamp. Soon after the birth of Varadacharya, Swami Deshikan undertook a yatra of all the Vadu Nadu Kshethrams. The first stop made by Swami Deshikan was that at Tirumala.

Here, Swami Deshikan composed the Dayā Shatakam, a hundred verse treatise on the characteristics of the Lord's quality of showering limitless daya or mercy on all of His devotees. When Swami Deshikan presented this work in front of Lord Srinivasa, the Lord is said to have been so moved by the rendition that He conferred Swami Deshikan with the title of Vedantaacharya.

Swami Deshikan then continued his journey north and visited many kshethrams such as Tirukadigai, Tiruayodhyi, Kāshī, Mathurā, Avantika, Badarikashramam, Puri, Brindavan, Dwārakā, Triveni, Gaya, Salagramam, Purushothamam, Srikoormam, etc. Before returning to Kanchi, he also visited Tiruvallikkeni and Tiruvallur.
