Manakkaal Nambigal

Manakkaal Nambi was born as Rāma Misrar in Manakkaal near Trichy. He was the disciple of Uyyakondar, who was the prime disciple of Nāthamunigaḷ. Manakkaal Nambi served his Āchārya for 12 years, during which his Āchārya's wife attained Paramapadam. After his Āchārya's wife attained Paramapadam, Manakkaal Nambi took care of his Āchārya, his house, and his children. One day, Uyyakondar's children were crossing the Kaveri River when they came across a puddle, which they were hesitant to cross.

Seeing this scene, Manakkaal Nambi fell face-first and asked the girls to use his body as a bridge to cross over to the other side. When Uyyakondar came to know of this incident, he was very impressed with his disciple and immediately performed the dwayamantropadesham. Before attaining Paramapadam, Uyyakondar instructs Manakkaal Nambi that he would become the Āchārya to Yāmunāchāryar(Āḷavandār), who was Nāthamunigaḷ's grandson.

He also instructed Manakkaal Nambi to perform panchasamskaram to Yāmunāchāryar and groom him to become the torch-bearer of the Sri Vaishṇava Philosophy.
