Sthala Puranam

The legend has it that Swetan, the son of King Dundumaaran of the Ikshwaku Vamsham, was saved by the presiding deity from the clutches of death while meditating on the Mruthyunjaya mantram under a vilvamaram on the banks of the Pushkariṇī. Dundumaaran is said to have performed tapas for one month when the Lord appeared in front of the king and saved his son from the clutches of death.

Special Note

Kumuthavalli Nāchiyār was found on the banks of the pond and brought up by a Vaishnavite who later married Tirumangai Āzhwār.

*Annan Perumāl is considered to be elder to Thiruvinnagar (Uppiliappan) and Tirumalai (Shrīnivāsar). Any prayer to be performed to either of the two can be performed here.
