It is said that Vyagrapadar used to perform kainkaryam to the Lord here by making garlands. One day, when Vyagrapadar had gone out in search of flowers, his infant son, Upamanyu, started to cry from hunger. Thus, the Lord sent Purushottama Nayaki Thāyār to feed the infant milk and give him water to prevent dehydration.
