Shrine Location
Sthala Puranam
Legend tells the story of the Saptarshis wanting to see the Lord. It is said that they performed tapas at a place called Shuceendram, not too far from this kshethram. When their tapas was completed, Lord Shiva appeared. When the Saptarshis said they wanted to see Lord Vishṇu, Lord Shiva directed them to this kshethram. Here again, the Saptarshis performed tapas, and the Lord appeared as Tiruvazhmarban with thāyār in His heart, granting darshanam for the Saptarshis.
Special Note
There is a shrine for Shri Rāma, Lakshmaṇa, Sītā, Bharatha, and Shatrugna here at this temple. This kshethram is also the avatara-sthalam of Vodaya Nangayar, the mother of Nam Āzhwār.
