It is said that Devī Sarasvatī, in one of her attempts to stop the yajña from reaching completion, took away all the light from the areas in and around Kāñchipuram, resulting in pitch-black darkness. Thus, the Lord is said to have first appeared as a small kindling light, after which He grew and eliminated the darkness, once again assisting Lord Brahmā in completing the yajña.
Special Note
Svāmi Vedānta Deshikan: Svāmi Deshikan is considered to be an incarnation of the divine bell of Shri Venkateshwara Svāmi of Tirumalai. Svāmi Deshikan was born here in Tooppul to Shri Anantha Suri and Devī Totaramba. By birth, Svāmi Deshikan was named Venkatanatha. When Svāmi Deshikan was just five years of age, he was taken by his maternal uncle, Kidambi Appular, to attend a discourse by Nadadhoor Ammal, a revered Shri Vaishṇava Scholar at the time.
As soon as Nadadhoor Ammal saw Venkatanatha, he saw a divine radiance in the child and stopped his lecture to hug the child affectionately. After this, when Nadadhoor Ammal said that he had forgotten where he had stopped his lecture, Venkatanatha reminded him of where he had stopped. This act astonished the crowd, as they had never seen a five-year-old boy comprehend the deep intricacies of philosophical knowledge being discussed.
It was then that Nadadhoor Ammal predicted and blessed Venkatanatha, stating that he would become the torch-bearer to spread Shri Vaishṇavism everywhere in the future. At each place, he composed numerous works in languages such as Tamil, Sanskrit, Prakrit, and Manipravalam (a blend of Sanskrit and Tamil), which revealed his ingenuity, creativity, logic, linguistic expertise, devotional fervor, and erudite scholarship.
Some of his greatest works include: 1) Hayagrīva Stotram 2) Sudarshana Ashtakam 3) Paduka Sahasram 4) Abheetistavam 5) Achyuta Shatakam 6) Daya Shatakam 7) Hamsa Sandesham 8) Shri Stuti 9) Yadavabyudayam 10) Kamasikashatakam
