Sthala Puranam
The legend recounts the story of how the Lord appeared at this kshetram as the Saptarshis performed tapas, with the intention of seeing the Lord in the form of Shri Nṛisimha. The rishis requested a local ruler to protect them from the prevailing demons in the area while they performed the necessary yajñas to please the Lord. The king tried his best to keep the rishis safe, but was defeated after some time. At this point, Lord Rāma had just defeated Rāvaṇa and was on his way back to rule Ayodhyā.
Thus, He instructed Hanumān to go and protect the rishis from all and any danger that was prevalent in the area. It is said that Hanumān held the Shankham and Chakram at this kshethram to protect the rishis from every possible risk. After successful completion of the tapas and yajñas, Lord Nṛisimha emerged seated in padmasana as Yoga Nṛisimha.
Special Note
Another name of this kshethram is Gadikachalam, as Gadika means 24 minutes. It is said that if one spends 24 minutes at the top of the hill, it absolves all sins that one has committed throughout one's life. There are two hills at this kshethram: one large hill with 1,300 steps, which houses Shri Yoga Nṛisimha Perumāl, and a smaller hill with 750 steps, which houses Shri Yoga Añjanēya Perumāl. This is the only place where one can see Añjanēyar with Shanku and Chakram seated in padmasana. Shri Añjanēyar faces Lord Nṛisimha.
It is said that Lord Nṛisimha constantly blesses Lord Añjanēyar. It is said that if one visits both of these temples, they will never be plagued by any kind of ghosts, spirits, or ghouls of any kind.
