Sthala Puranam
There is no explicitly known sthala purāṇam for this particular kshethram. The presiding deity Karunakara Perumāl is so named because of his character of showing karunai or daya. The Lord here is compared to a cloud. This is for two reasons: one being his color, and the other being that he showers affection on all his devotees. This kshethram is called Kaaragam. This is because Kaara means karunai or affection, and agam means place. Thus, at this kshethram, the Lord showers his affection on all his devotees as Karunakara Perumāl.
