Tiruayodhi (Ayodhyā)

The legend has it that Lord Vishṇu extracted Ayodhyā, a part of Vaikuṇṭham, and presented it to Lord Brahmā, who then gave it to his son, Swaayambhuva Manu, who brought it to Bhooloka and placed it on the banks of the Sarayū River. The original temples, on which the Āzhwārs composed the Divya Prabhandam, were destroyed by invaders. Now, there are shrines for Raṅganāthar and Rāma in the Ammaji Temple, located on the banks of the River Sarayū as well as the newly constructed Ayodhyā Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir.

This temple for Lord Hanumān is known as Hanumān Gadhi. The Lord here is said to be the protector of Ayodhyā. Performing go-dhaanam on the banks of the Saryu River is said to give the person performing dhaanam moksham.
